This caitya is situated at Kuncipvākal, a Tamang settlement on the foot of the Shivapuri hill. According to local informants, there used to be a pile of stones with some statues covered in bushes at this spot. In 2010 CE, the remnants of what used to be a caitya were renovated to form a complete caitya with the statues of Pañcabuddhas, Padmasambhava, Vajrapāṇi, along with the figures of donors and a stone stele with the carving of the Svayambhū Caitya. There are no records to the initial construction of the caitya. There is a well-preserved unique inscription in two scripts (Tibetan and Newari), but it is not related to the caitya itself. It informs us about the construction of a guesthouse in 1789 CE. However, no guesthouse or its remains can be found at the site. Because of its location, the caitya was unnoticed by the public and has not been documented before. Similar to the above-mentioned guesthouse, the caitya might have disappeared in due course of time if it had not been brought into the attention of public. This is why the Nepal Heritage Documentation Project pays special attention towards the documentation of such endangered monuments.
