NHDP at the ECSAS 2023
Members of NHDP present findings and discussions of the challenges of heritage documentation at the 27 Conference for South Asian Studies in Turin, Italy, from 26 to 29 July 2023. In the panel Stasis and Motion in the Processional Culture of Kathmandu Valley: The Buṅgadyaḥ Yātrā Revisited , scholars discussed varying facets of the annual procession of the god Buṅgadyaḥ, one of the most important festivals in Kathmandu Valley. Over the centuries the festival has become a major forum for the performance of social, religious and gender identities, the staging of power and status and the construction of spatiotemporal imaginaries. The panel also revolves around questions of endangered and revitalized heritage making.
