Pharpiṅga Jaḥdhuṃ Phalcā (DANAM ID: PRN0040) in Pharping is a unique arcaded platform because of three water tanks (jaḥdhuṃs) being embedded in the center of its base. The middle jaḥdhuṃ has an early medieval inscription. It states that Ajasiṃha installed the tank during the reign of Mahāsāmanta Jaitarāmajīva under King Bhīmadeva in 1260 CE (NS 381). The Phalcā was most probably built later. Unlike other arcaded platforms, which usually have roofs supported by columns and walls enclosing three sides, with a closed backside, Pharpiṅga Jaḥduṃ Phalcā features a wall in the middle, with three columns at the front and back respectively. The tradition of filling the water tanks, used by farmers, travelers or pilgrims, has stopped, leaving them dry and unused. The arcaded platform is located along the main route leading to the Tarāī through Pharpiṅ, Dakṣiṇakālī, and Bhīmaphedī, and once served as a resting spot. Since the guṭhī (ritual association) that was once constituted for the phalca’s service no longer exists, no more socio-religious activities are held there anymore. The Phalcā was renovated in 2013 CE (2070 VS) by the Department of Archaeology. For more information on this, please visit the DANAM database
