Nālāchāpa Caṭṭāna Abhilekha (DANAM ID: BKT0660), found among four rock formations in Nālāchāpa of Bhaktapur, this formation of stone with the inscription stands embedded in the edge of a private field. The inscription from 1715 CE (NS 835) declares that this particular rock has been selected by Bhūpatindra Malla for building a stone temple in the name of his father and that works had already begun for the same. These inscriptions show that the rulers used to mark rocks from this area by inscribing a royal declaration, ordering people to not use the rocks for other purposes. During the medieval period, rocks from a place named "Koṭakhā" was considered to be of excellent quality for carving statues. Inscriptions on such artistic creations carved on stone from this place proudly mention "made from Koṭakhā stone.". There are ample examples of sculptures, caityas, water spouts (hiti), and pillars from the Licchavi period that are made from high-quality stone.
